Traditional Jazz - 1930 - 1950
Here is an example of Traditional Jazz by Buddy Bolden
Charles Bolden was born on September 6, 1877 and died on November 4, 1931. Not much is known about this artist. most of his life that we hear about is thought to be a big myth. People tend to make things up about him. What we do know for sure is that he helped develop a New Orleans style of ragtime jazz. He was born in New Orleans. He is known as King Bolden by many.

He and his band are credited by many musicians for familiarizing people with the term “jazz.” Although Bolden is my example for Traditional Jazz, he is not just known for this style. In fact it may be his least popular genre. He is also known for his ragtime and his combination of ragtime and blues. Bolden was able to pick music up ‘by ear’ and even transfer it to his horn and in doing so, he also played a style known to us as fusion.
As I said there is very little known about Charles “Buddy” Bolden, his life, and his career. |
