Benny Goodman’s full name was Benjamin David Goodman. He was born on May 30, 1909 in Chicago, Illinois. Unfortunately, Benny died on June 13, 1986 of a heart failure. Benny Goodman was an excellent band leader and clarinetist. He was a huge icon for swing music. His parents were Russian immigrants. The father was a tailor. When Goodman was ten, he went to study music at the Kehelah Jacob Synagogue. His teacher was a man by the name of Franz Schoepp. Young Benny joined the Hull-House band. Benny became a member of the American Federation of Musicians at only 14, he was highly talented.

His professional career debuted in 1921. Just a couple of years later he joined Ben Pollack’s band, he stayed with the band for many years and became the lead soloist. In 1928 Goodman released his first album: A Jazz Holiday. Benny Goodman was a very talented musician; he worked with many other famous people of his time such as Fats Waller, Ted Lewis, and Bessie Smith. He found work with radios, orchestras, etc. He placed on the charts for the first time with a song called “He’s Not Worth Your Tears” featuring Scrappy Lambert. Goodman also worked with other stars also such as John Hammond, Billie Holiday, Jack Teagarden, and lots more. He was very social. There are a lot more events that happened in Benny Goodman’s career, he was a very, very successful man.
